WEST END director Michael Gyngell staged a children’s performance of Grease the musical at Harpsden hall.

WEST END director Michael Gyngell staged a children’s performance of Grease the musical at Harpsden hall.

The show, which was performed in front of an invited audience, was the culmination of a five-day workshop for 10- to 16-year-olds.

The annual musical theatre workshop week is subsidised by the Henley Festival and BMW, one of the festival’s sponsors, spray-painted a ride-on car for use in the production. Beth Bowden played the part of Sandy and Molly Liddell was Danny.

The children performed 10 songs, including You’re The One That I Want and Greased Lightning. Mandy Beard, community projects manager for the festival, said: “We start with a very basic script and we add to it across the week to create our own production. It is great to see the children having such fun.”
