All set for this year's Living Advent Calendar

SPONSORS and hosts of this year?s Henley Living Advent Calendar attended its official launch this week.

SPONSORS and hosts of this year?s Henley Living Advent Calendar attended its official launch this week.

Now in its third year, the event will involve 24 venues across town hosting 15-minute performances by singers, dancers and other acts each evening from December 1 to 24.

The launch took place at Hotel du Vin in New Street on Tuesday with a drinks reception and a raffle.

Founder Julie Perigo, who chairs the Henley Partnership, said: ?We were the first town in the UK to set this up and if there was an indication of its success, it is the fact that four other towns have copied us.?

Raffle tickets and beanie hats will be on sale each night of the calendar and the money raised will go to the Henley Youth Centre, Fourbirdsaboating, the Poppy Appeal and Henley Regatta for the Disabled.

A new brochure called Henley-on-Christmas will have all the details of each night?s entertainment and other events around the town. It is being produced jointly by the Living Advent Calendar and Henley Town Council with sponsorship from the Higgs Group, publisher of the Henley Standard, and will be distributed through the paper.

The event?s main sponsor is Sotheby?s.

The calendar initiative won the business and economy and partnership and strategic working category for the South at the Towns Alive Awards and was nominated in the Association of Town and City Management?s awards.
