A RETIRED classroom assistant has become the first winner of this year’s Henley Standard Christmas hamper competition.

A RETIRED classroom assistant has become the first winner of this year’s Henley Standard Christmas hamper competition.

Margaret Thompson, 70, of Reading Road, Henley won a Tesco hamper worth £75. It is the second time she has won the competition, after getting her hands on a Waitrose hamper in 2008.

She said: “It feels very good to win and I like entering competitions. It’s something I normally do when I see them, mostly in the Henley Standard but sometimes online. You’ve got to be in it to win it!

“Now and again I win prizes such as hampers and theatre tickets. I buy the newspaper every week so it’s great to win. I enter the hamper competition every year but after winning twice in five years I don’t think I’ll enter for again for a few years.”

The hamper contained a selection of Christmas goodies including chocolate truffles, a Christmas cake and a bottle of premier cru champagne.

Mrs Thompson said: “I hope to share it with family and friends at Christmas, which is coming around quickly.”
