School group will open drama festival

THE running order for the 44th Henley Drama Festival has been announced.

Langley Grammar School will get the ball rolling at the Kenton theatre on Wednesday with a performance of Blooded, by Isabel Wright, followed the same night by Henley Players’ Glashtyn, by Rognvald Gunn, and then Breakaleg Productions’ Hands Across the Sea, by Noel Coward.

The four-day competition between drama groups continues the next day when North Oxford Youth Theatre take to the stage with Mobile Phone Show, by Jim Cartwright, and Sinodun Players perform Sharks in the Custard, by Tony Layton.

Next Friday Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society will deliver A Moment of Silence, by Neil Labute, Didcot Phoenix Drama Group take on The Edge, by Ron Nichol, and The Young Theatre, Beaconsfield, perform Voyage Round the World with Class 6, by John Warburton.

The festival culminates on Saturday when Didcot Phoenix Drama Group take on Steve Martin’s The Zigzag Woman at 7pm, and The Young Theatre, Beaconsfield, perform Nine, by Jane Shepard, before Mayor of Henley-on-Thames Martin Akehurst presents the awards.



There are 15 trophies to be won, awarded to the best actor and best original play for example, as well as for best stage presentation, the adjudicator’s choice and a great favourite , The Diamond Shield for A Magic Moment.

This year’s professional judge is Colin Dolley, from The Guild of Drama Adjudicators.
