A PLANT sale in aid of Henley in Bloom was held in the town?s market place on Saturday.

Dozens of people, including Mayor Lorraine Hillier, attended the event, which was hosted by Henley in Bloom, the Henley Allotments Association and the Greenshoots charity in Peppard. Residents could buy plants and swap some of their own and there was a raffle with prizes of family tickets to the Henley Show in September and a planter shaped like a pig, which was won by Joan Jones, of War Memorial Place.

Reed diffusers made by ScentElite, an online perfume and essential oils supplier based in Gallowstree Common, were also on sale with £2 from each sale going to Henley in Bloom. There was also a display of plants that improve air quality in the home.

A total of £744 was raised, the highest amount ever made at the annual sale.

Dave McEwan, the sale co-ordinator, said: ?A big thank-you to all who supported the event either by providing or buying plants or helping on the day.

?Particular mention should be made of Doug Richards, site manager of the Watermans allotments, who weighed out more than 100 bundles of rhubarb donated by allotment holders, as well as providing more than 100 plants himself.?
