Henley in Bloom members to attend awards ceremonies

HENLEY town councillors will attend award ceremonies for Britain in Bloom and Entente Florale.

HENLEY town councillors will attend award ceremonies for Britain in Bloom and Entente Florale.

Members of the Henley in Bloom committee agreed to spend £1,800 on travel to the two ceremonies, which will each be attended by four or five members. They budgeted £1,000 for the Entente Florale awards in Bristol on September 18, following the judging in the town in July.

The Britain in Bloom awards, which were judged earlier this month, will take place in Sunderland on October 16. Councillor Kellie Hinton, vice-chairwoman, said: “I felt the nationals went a lot better than expected. The judges could see the difference from last year and two years ago.

“For Entente, [Councillor] David Eggleton drove the minibus all day and probably missed out on hundreds of pounds of work, so he should go.”

Mayor Lorraine Hillier said: “Entente should be for the real nuts and bolts people to save on costs. It would be nice to have a jolly but I’m looking at it financially.”
