A CHRISTMAS shopping evening will take place in Goring on Friday, December 4.

Businesses will stay open until 8pm and many will be offering seasonal treats. At the Arcade in High Street, gift shop Inspiration will hand out sweets while Goring Village Butchers will run a barbecue and the Chef King Chinese restaurant will set out a buffet.

Goring Free Church will offer hot chocolate with marshmallows while Goring Vets will serve mulled wine and stage festive activities.

Crews from the fire station in Icknield Road will be showing their fire engine and there will be performances by Goring Chamber Choir and Goring brownies. Father Christmas will be walking around and greeting children.

At 6pm Chris Russell, of Goring rock band The Lightyears, will light up the Christmas tree in Rectory Gardens. He will also be signing copies of his novel Mockstars, about his career as a professional touring musician.

Dawn Roberts, co-chairwoman of the Goring Gap Business Network, which organises the night, said: “It has been such a success in the past because of support from our lovely residents as well as our shops, who are the beating heart of the Goring Gap.”
