Record number of red, white and blue baskets

A RECORD 241 summer hanging baskets will be displayed in Henley this year, writes Connor McLoughlin.

The baskets are now being put up outside shops, houses and businesses and the red, white and blue flowers are expected to begin blooming next week in time for the Queen&rsquos 90th birthday celebrations in the town.

Another eight baskets were ordered in the final week and the buyers included Towergate Insurance in Duke Street, Scott Investment Partners in Thames Side, Rupert House School in Bell Street and residents Keith Beggin, of Elizabeth Road, Anita Dowling, of Norman Avenue, and Chris Page, of Crisp Road.

This is the fourth year a record total has been set for the hanging baskets, which are supplied by WindowFlowers of Burnham.

Kellie Hinton, who chairs Henley in Bloom, said: “We have got more baskets than ever before and the people of Henley should be proud of themselves. It&rsquos really wonderful that some baskets have been donated. We&rsquove been able to give these extra ones to the Citizens Advice Bureau and the fire station.”



Each basket has petunia surfinia blue vein (white with blue), petunia surfinia (red), pelargonium peltatum ivy leaved geranium (red), lobelia sapphire (blue), scaevola (blue), verbena tapien blue violet (blue) and begonia dragon wing (red).
