TWENTY-FOUR boats from local clubs, schools and colleges are hoping to qualify for next week’s Henley Royal Regatta.
Qualifying races will take place down the famous course on Friday 24 June, from 2pm to 7.15pm.
Owing to the record number of entries at this year’s event the regatta committee of management has increased the number of entries allowed in three events.
In the Princess Grace Cup there with will now be 12 entries instead of eight, the Diamond Jubilee Cup will have 16 entries instead of eight and the Diamond Sculls will see 16 entries instead of 12.
The first of the local crews in action tonight will be the Silver Goblets and Nickalls’ Cup Leander coxless pair entry of Phil Congdon and Sam Arnot just after 2pm. Thereafter crews from Henley, Upper Thames, Reading Blue Coat School, The Oratory and Shiplake College will all be in action.
Those who qualify will be entered into the draw which will take place at the town hall at 3pm Saturday.
