SHIPLAKE Vikings Rowing Club have this year entered the Diamond Jubilee Cup for junior women’s quads for the first time in the club’s history with a crew that possess a winning pedigree in the sport.
As medallists at this year’s Metropolitan Regatta and the National Schools’ Regatta, the crew of Maddie Orr, Lauren Edwards, Ellie Thompson and Hattie Orr have been aiming for a strong finale to their last season together as a junior quad before their rowing careers move towards their respective university destinations.
The crew have a strong provence over the past four seasons together with wins and gold medals at all the major junior events, including the Schools’ Head of the River, Women’s Head of the River, National Schools Regatta, Henley Women’s Regatta and the British Junior Championships.
In 2014 the girls entered the Diamond Jubilee Cup as a young J16 quad and out-paced a selection of older crews to earn a semi-final place in front of their home crowd.
Last year the crew rowed to success in the finals of the Henley Women’s Regatta junior coxed four event and subsequently won a gold medal at the British Junior Championships and two further gold medals representing England in the junior four and junior eight boats at the Home Countries Regatta.
With all four girls having already earned their first GB caps at J16 level in the GB eight, and Hattie Orr now destined for further international honours in the main GB junior squad this season, this Shiplake Vikings crew are strong contenders at this year’s regatta.
