THIS time of year, as the cold winter weather becomes a distant memory and summer is on the horizon, is surely the best time to update your look with a change of hairstyle.
It had been more than a year since I last had my hair coloured so I was delighted to spend an afternoon at Dorata Hairdressing in Henley to brighten up my natural locks with a colour, cut and treatment.
I visited the Hart Street salon the day before my appointment for a consultation with manager Andrea Dorata to discuss the look I will be going for, something which is offered to all clients, old and new.
Andrea, who runs Dorata with brother Angelo, says: “Apart from hair styling, customer service is the most important part of our service. With every client we always give a consultation. We also give advice on how they can maintain their hair at home. Consultations are more about listening than talking. People sometimes know more about what they don’t want than what they do.”
He asks me how I normally wear my hair, what styles I prefer and which products I use, and fills me in on the latest trends — centre partings and Kate Middleton’s groomed-yet-casual look — although I shy away from the latest colour trend: pink.
