ABOUT 100 people attended a curry and quiz night in Wargrave to raise funds towards a new classroom at Robert Piggott Infant School.
Guests raised £2,000 from tickets and drinks sales throughout the night and food was served by caterer Cuzza Wallah, from Hare Hatch.
About 13 teams made up of teaching staff and the parent teacher associations of both Piggott schools as well as parents of pupils at the school and residents attended Woodclyffe Hall on Saturday night. The quiz comprised seven rounds including a picture round, dingbats and general knowledge.
The event was organised and hosted by Neal Smith, owner of the Wargrave Blind Company. He also ran the event last year.
The winners of the quiz were the “Quizticles” comprising ?? They won a case of wine from Laithwaites.
A raffle was held during the night with prizes including three magnums of wine.
The money raised is for new furniture and teaching equipment for a new clasroom at the school, which is being built.
Mr Smith, who is on the parent teacher association, said: “This is for the PTA and the parents as much as it is for raising money as well but what’s quite nice is a lot of people who have come are non-parents of the school as well.
“We had to stop selling tickets because of the popularity. We couldn’t sell any more. It’s great that the wider community supports this and it’s nice to be able to make this an annual event. The school has the funding set aside to build the classroom at the moment but they don’t have the funding to fit out the classrooms so it makes or breaks how successful or how well that classroom will be fitted out.”
Assistant headteacher of the schools Ali Sinfield, said the funds are much-needed because of budget cuts and under funding.
She said: “Where PTAs used to provide nice extras, it has now become far more that they are providing some of the necessaries as well as the extras.”
