AN inspired piece of managerial decision making by WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW’S Ross Weatherstone gained his side a point in the 86th minute of their Premier Division derby clash with ROTHERFIELD UNITED.
The decision was to bring himself on as substitute with five minutes remaining and Rotherfield playing with 11 men behind the ball to try and preserve their 1-0 lead to take all three points. The visitors had gone ahead after 18 minutes through a Simon Frost goal.
A minute after his introduction Weatherstone converted a good cross from Dave Givens to level the scores and soon afterwards his header from another cross hit the bar.
Earlier, Woodcote’s Jake Dillon failed to hit the target with a penalty kick and Rotherfield held on desperately in a second-half totally dominated by Woodcote.
In Division 2 WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW RESERVES came back from a 3-1 deficit to grab a point at BARKHAM. Jonny Clark helped himself to two well-taken goals with Tommy Brownlow on target with the other.
Elsewhere in the division GORING UNITED went down to a 5-2 defeat at home to WHITE EAGLES after holding the visitors at 2-2 at half-time.
ROTHERFIELD UNITED RESERVES recorded their first Division 3 win of the season thanks to a 5-3 win against ASHRIDGE PARK at Bishopswood.
Ashridge raced into a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes with two smart finishes. The hosts turned the game on its head with three goals in 10 minutes at the end of the first half. Brett Griffin got United back in the match with a strike from an acute angle on his debut and soon after centre back Paul Clifford scuffed an equaliser after a bit of a scramble. Captain Darren Scott poked in the third after an assist by man-of-the-match Luke Whiley who had surged forward from centre back.
Ashridge levelled early in the second half before Darren Scott headed his second to make it 4-3. The hosts wrapped up the scoring with a deflected Markland Tidswell shot to make it 5-3 midway through the half.
