Grace double sets up winner-takes-all clash

WATLINGTON TOWN went level on points with Ardington and Lockinge after defeating them at their ground on Saturday and in doing so kept their title and promotion challenge alive.

The visitors took the lead midway through the half from an Edgar Garces header from a Neal Smith free-kick but the hosts responded with an equaliser within minutes.

Town regained the lead when Adam Holloway was tripped in the box and Ben Little neatly put away the penalty.

They then capped an excellent first half when Kurt McCormick’s pass was diverted into the path of Garces, who grabbed his second of the game with a simple finish to make it 3-1.

Ardington were not done yet though, and in the second half they forced a nervy finish when they won and converted a penalty of their own.

Chances then came and went at both ends but Town held on for the victory that leaves the Division 3 championship as a two-horse race between Watlington and local rivals Benson Lions, who visit the Recreation Ground tomorrow (Saturday) in a winner-takes-all battle.
