Village side deliver a knockout blow

EMMER GREEN moved to the top of the Senior Division table last Sunday after thrashing SOUTHCOTE COLTS 5-0 at the Recreation Ground.

Daniel Donegan put the hosts ahead from a free kick after Lorenzo Medford was fouled on the edge of the box. Emmer Green pressed hard for a second but attempts by Luke Donegan and Ashley Searle failed to find the back of the net leaving the home side with a narrow advantage at half-time.

Emmer Green double their lead when a Southcote player handled Jordan Cox’s header on the line which saw their player sent off and Daniel Donegan scoring the resultant penalty.

The home side could have had a third when Daniel Donegan’s free kick was flicked on and fell to brother John Donegan who fired home through the keeper’s legs only for it to be ruled offside.

Emmer Green looked the better of the two sides and with Southcote down to 10 men they took advantage with 20 minutes left when Phil Brown kicked a long ball to Ryan Adams who turned the defender to square the ball to Searle who tapped in at the back post.

The hosts bagged their fourth when Aaron Evans won the ball from a tackle and found Medford in some space. Medford collected the ball and travelled half the pitch and beat the keeper one on one to score his first goal for the club.

Emmer Green got their fifth and final goal of the game when defender Jake Smith pushed forward and played the ball down the line to Medford. Smith kept pushing forward and Green kept possession working the ball around the box. Medford spotted Smith unmarked and laid the ball nicely to Smith who hit a sweet shot bottom right hand corner to also score his first goal for Emmer Green.

HENLEY TOWN crashed out of the Sam Waters Cup at the quarter-final stage after going down to a 5-3 home defeat against VILLAGE INN.

The home side started the game well and were in front after 10 minutes when Aaron Brittain finished well after being played through on goal.

Henley went 2-0 up soon after when Brittain forced the Village Inn keeper into a mistake before slotting home his second of the match.

The visitors began to grow in the game and pulled a goal back with a shot inside the box that crashed in after hitting the underside of the bar. Just before the break Village Inn equalised.

Shortly after half-time Village Inn took the lead when a ball over the top allowed their striker through on goal who finished well.

By now Village Inn were on top and added two more goals in quick succession to go 5-3 up. Henley pulled a goal back when Dan York’s 30 yard free kick flew into the top left corner of the goal.
