Rotherfield crash out

ROTHERFIELD UNITED crashed out of the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage after going down 4-1 away at MARLOW UNITED.

The home side, who play a division above Rotherfield in the Thames Valley Premier League, began the game in style, forcing three corners and two good saves from keeper Grant Wildish inside the first two minutes.

Rotherfield tested the home keeper on 20 minutes with a cross-cum-shot but within five minutes of this rare excursion Marlow took the lead from a corner.

Marlow doubled their advantage soon after but Rotherfield refused to buckle and enjoyed their best period of the game, twice stretching the Marlow defence, with the home goalkeeper once again being forced into a diving save.

Soon after Rotherfield pulled a goal when Tom Cavendish got on the end of a corner to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Early in the second half Marlow made it 3-1 before wrapping up the scoring on the hour mark with a well taken strike beating Wildish.

GORING UNITED RESERVES bowed out of the Reading Invitation Jubilee Cup after going down 2-0 at home to CHALVEY (WMC) SPORTS A.
