League leaders run riot on their travels

EMMER GREEN recorded an emphatic away win against AFC Burghfield at AWE Aldermaston to remain top of the Reading and District Sunday League Premier Division.

Burghfield started the game with nine men so Emmer Green took advantage and took an early lead when Daniel Donegan fired home from outside the area.

Emmer Green made it 2-0 a minute later when Ryan Adams’ shot was stopped by the keeper but parried straight back to Adams’ feet who made no mistake.

Daniel Donegan headed home a pinpoint cross from Lorenzo Medford to make it 3-0 before Adams composed himself and fired home from a corner. Adam’s bagged his first half hat-trick breaking free of the defence and scoring bottom right.

Burghfield pulled one back before the visitor bagged another goal after the ball fell kindly to Medford who broke the defence and beat the keeper. Jordan Cox made it 7-1 before Adams extended his side’s lead after the Burghfield defence failed to clear.

Burghfield started the second half with a full complement of players but their comeback didn’t quite go to plan with their centre back heading into his own net from a Daniel Donegan free kick.

The goals kept coming with another one for Daniel Donegan this time from the penalty spot. Donegan’s initial shot was saved but he made sure from the rebound.

Luke Donegan got on the score sheet after getting on the end of brother Daniel’s corner and Ciaran Crean made it 12-1 finding the back of the net from 20 yards. Crean got another hitting a curler giving the keeper no chance to make it 13-1.

Burghfield scored their second before John Donegan finished the rout with a bullet header from a Medford corner to make it 14-2.
