Away win helps Emmer Green close in on league title

EMMER GREEN put one hand on the Senior Division title trophy with a solid 4-0 win at fellow contenders THE SPORTSMAN last Sunday.

Ryan Adams broke the deadlock when he collected Dave Kingham’s pass and hit the ball on the volley to give Emmer Green the lead.

The visitors were given a penalty after Ryan Adams collected Phil Brown’s long goal kick but was tripped in the box. Daniel Donegan stepped up to make it 2-0.

Lorenzo Medford had an opportunity to make it 3-0 but his shot was saved by the keeper, Adams was first to react but unselfishly left it for Ashley Searle who finished bottom right.

Emmer Green were looking dominant and the points were sealed when Daniel Donegan put the ball through to brother Luke who was clinical with his finish.

The result leaves Emmer Green, who have one match of the season remaining, nine points above The Sportsman who have three matches still to play.

In Division 1 HENLEY TOWN, who were playing their first match in a month, lost out 1-0 at TWYFORD COMETS.

Henley started the brighter of the two sides and created several chances but none were clear cut. The visitors’ best chance of the half came when George Carder beat two defenders but his shot went into the side netting.

The second half began with Twyford starting brightly and forcing Charlie York into some good saves to keep the score goalless.

The home side took the lead when a deflection off a Henley defender found its way into the goal.

Henley’s best chance of the second half came late on when a Charlie York flick header sent George Carder through on goal but his effort was tipped over the bar by Twyford goalkeeper. From the corner Henley had a shout for handball but their appeals were waived away by the referee.
