HENLEY TOWN slipped four places in Division 1 East of the Hellenic League on Saturday after going down 4-0 at Burnham Reserves, writes Michael Trendall.
Hosts Burnham turned out a strong side including the big Joe Earis at centre forward who was a handful all afternoon and strong in the air.
Henley had the better of the early exchanges with the lively O’Callaghan chasing down every ball and Sam Rolfe having a hard low drive saved by Burgen. Billy Gordon lobbed a pass to Louis Howell who blasted over the bar.
Simmonds hooked the ball over Steven Fairchild in the Henley goal but Richard Thomas somehow got back to clear off the goal line.
The home side went ahead when substitute Joe Lloyd smashed home from a narrow angle following a corner. Graham Sims forced Burgen into a flying save from the left wing and Burnham put the ball into the Henley net only for referee Paul Andrews to consult his linesman and award a free kick instead which the home side wasted. Four minutes into the second half Goldie made it 2-0 with a shot deflected past Fairchild. Soon after James East came on for Rolfe.
