Town give champions a run for their money

Kidlington Reserves 2 Watlington Town 1

WATLINGTON TOWN travelled to already-crowned Oxfordshire Senior League Division 1 title winners Kidlington Reserves aiming to build on an eight-game unbeaten run in the league.

The visitors were without six first team players for the trip, so manager Matthews was forced to revert from his favoured 4-5-1 formation to a more orthodox 4-4-2.

Watlington were slow to get out of the traps but were keeping their shape well, and were making it difficult for the home side to carve out any real opportunities.

Town’s first chance fell to Stevenson when he latched on to a through ball but the speedy forward was slightly off target, firing high and wide on the half volley.
