Adams’ first-half strike not enough as hosts hit back

THE continued wet weather saw another 13 Thames Valley Premier League matches postponed across all six division last Saturday.

Of the matches that did survive, HENLEY TOWN went down to a
3-1 Premier Division defeat to MAIDENHEAD TOWN at the Burnham 1878 Stadium.

Henley edged the first half and came close on 10 minutes when Jacob Tait-Toussant saw his header go narrowly wide.

Possession was shared equally with the home side forcing Town keeper Ben Palmer into a couple of fine saves. After 25 minutes a good passing move from defence and down the left side saw a Dan York pass to the right flank that was picked up by winger Luke Adams, who cut inside to fire a low shot past Alex Collie in the Maidenhead goal to open the scoring.

Henley created a couple of more chances through Tommy Fosh and Harry Taylor but were unable to score again before half-time.

The second half saw Town have a good spell for 15 minutes with Adams coming close twice before Maidenhead equalised when Ben Diment forced the ball home after a goalmouth scramble from a corner to the far post.

With the visitors pushing for an equaliser the hosts extended their lead with 10 minutes left when Alex Badshah broke away to calmly side-foot home and seal the points.

In Division 2, HENLEY EXILES crashed to a 12-1 defeat at HARCHESTER HAWKS.

The Exiles got off to the worse possible start as they went a goal behind after just two minutes.

The Hawks’ quality in the final third was clinical along with some unforced errors that allowed the game to get away from the despondent Exiles.

Luke Davis grabbed a consolation goal in the second half for the visitors.
