A GOAL in each half by Adam Jeffrey ensured Henley Town picked up their first Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East victory of the season at Penn and Tylers Green on Saturday.
Henley made three changes to their starting 11 and two changes to the bench.
Regular goalkeeper Steven Fairchild was on holiday and his place between the sticks was taken by midfielder Graham Sims.
Sims played in goal for Towns Youth team 10 years ago when Ian Alleyne was manager and went on the be the regular keeper at Reading Town and Marlow until a shoulder injury forced him to play as a midfielder three years ago.
It didnt take long for Sims to reignite his skills as a keeper as he pulled off a string of good saves to earn him the man-of-the-match award.
Henley started slowly against the workmanlike home side with both defences giving little away.
Danny Faherty replaced Sam Rolfe at left back after 25 minutes and Henley gradually started to take the initiative and took the lead six minutes before the break when Adam Jeffrey cut in from the right to fire past goalkeeper James Jackson with the help of a deflection from a Penn defender.
In the second half the Red Kites were playing up the slope and had to withstand pressure from the home team but on the hour mark good build up saw Jeffrey score Henleys second goal.
Penn never gave up but with Sims, Warren Baxter, Eliot Whitehouse and Mitch Cooper defending resolutely Henley held on to secure all three points.
Henley Town: G Sims; J Mew, W Baxter, E Whitehouse, S Rolfe (D Faherty, 25 mins); A Povey (L Howell, 80 mins), M Cooper, S Moore, R Absolm (B Clark, 46 mins): G Kemp, A Jeffrey.
