Transfer talks go right to wire on deadline day

THE ROYALS have pulled off a last-minute deal for Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray, who has joined on loan until January with a view to a permanent switch, writes Eddie Fitzmaurice.

The deal went right to the wire on transfer deadline day, with both clubs submitting paperwork right up to the 11pm deadline.

Murray scored 31 goals for Palace in the season before last as the south London club won promotion to the Premier League.

A cruciate ligament injury at the end of that campaign meant he had to sit out most of last season.

The 30-year-old is Royals boss Nigel Adkins’ fifth signing of the summer, following Simon Cox, Jamie Mackie, Anton Ferdinand and Oliver Norwood to the Madejski Stadium.
