Robins off the mark

GORING ROBINS U12s achieved their first league win of the season in this Berkshire Youth Development League fixture against Holyport Memorial U12s.

The first half was full of chances with both defences stretched to breaking point more than once.

The Robins had more possession but a couple of early breaks by Holyport signified their intent and speed, and one such break ended with a cross for a headed goal from short range that left George Dodd in goal with no chance.

The Robins recovered quickly and when striker Harry Purdy was tripped just inside the box he stepped up himself to drive the penalty home for the equaliser. Later in the half Alex Jaffray was sent clear down the middle and he controlled the ball on the run before thumping it low past the keeper to put the Robins 2-1 up.

At half-time the Robins defence was changed and this switch was successful as, along with a couple of fine saves by Dodd, the Holyport attack was largely nullified. Despite a number of further Robins chances, there were no more goals.
