AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U10s went down to a 4-2 defeat at home to CAMBERLEY TOWN YOUTH ROYALS U10s in the East Berks League last Saturday.

Henley started brightly with good play down the right flank by Brad Coomes and Dino Cheesman which almost resulted in an early goal for Adam Palmer. Harry Purslow almost found the target from an acute angle.

Eventually the pressure told and Camberley scored a breakaway goal. The Hotspurs hit back when man-of-the-match Hamish Carle won the ball in midfield and surged forwards before shooting in the net. Henley’s momentum was checked by another goal from Camberley just before half-time.

Camberley added a third goal but led by Ben Yeoman Henley rallied and played their best football in the closing minutes.

Purslow reduced the deficit from close range after a run by Yeoman. As the Hotspurs went for all-out attack Camberley scored with the last kick of the match.

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U10s continued their unbeaten East Berks League campaign with a 5-2 win against PINEWOOD PUMAS U10s last Saturday.

Playing with a much changed side, the Hurricanes were slow to get out of the blocks and were soon punished by a goal from the Pumas.

Jem McAllister spotted the keeper off his line and fired a shot into the roof on the net to even the scores. The Pumas restored their lead after confusion in the Henley defence before Archie Barker released McAllister who produced a cutback for Ben Hudson to score.

The Hurricanes took the lead with another smart finish from McAllister, cementing his position as the division’s leading goal scorer with his 13th goal of the season.

Man-of-the-match Will Davie and Zodey Sibijan helped shore up the defence before the Hurricanes netted again. Jamie Hudson broke free on the right-hand side before delivering a cross to Luke Taylor who, without breaking stride, volleyed into the bottom right-hand corner. Archie Barker wrapped up the game with a tap in at the far post.

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U9s ran out comfortable 8-1 winners against SPENCERS WOOD HURRICANES U9s in the East Berks Youth Football League Section C last Saturday.

Henley took the lead when Clark took the ball down the left wing and crossed to Butler to score. It was 2-0 soon after when the ball fell loose and Butler was the first to react. Butler secured his first-half hat-trick following good dribbling from Kernick.

Soon after Ruffel collected a midfield pass before firing home from distance. Smith then set up Kernich for Henley’s fifth goal just before half-time.

The second half saw Flower net for the home side with a strike from the edge of the penalty box before Clark pitched in with a lob from distance.

The visitors scored a consolation goal from a free kick before a Wylie pass from central midfield found Flower who poked home to complete the rout.
