AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U10s earned a valuable East Berks League point at home against title rivals ASHRIDGE PARK U10s last Wednesday.
Liam Hilditch, Will Saunders and Oli Leeman performed well in defence for Henley with Luke Taylor again excelling between the posts.
Man-of-the-match Justus Larter was influential in midfield with some good touches and strong tackling. Larter was aided by Jamie Hudson who kept the tempo well in the middle through some short simple passing and Ben Hudson, Jem McAllister and Archie Barker who were all testing Ashridge’s back line with their strong running.
The Hurricanes took the lead when Hudson thumped a penalty home after a handball in the box but parity was restored in the final quarter of the game when Ashridge equalised after a well-worked goal from their own half.
AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U10s went down to a 5-2 home defeat against SANDHURST U10s in the East Berks League last Saturday.
Henley started well and goal attempts by Dino Cheesman and Adam Palmer were well saved by Sandhurst’s keeper.
The Hotspurs dominated the first quarter but against the run of play Sandhurst broke away to go 1-0 up. The hosts countered but Sandhurst added to their lead just before half-time.
In the second half Sandhurst extended their lead to 4-0 due to slack defending by the Hotspurs. In the final quarter Tim Armstrong moved up to centre forward and pulled a goal back with a run and shot under pressure.
Man-of-the-match Armstrong added a second soon after, bundling the ball into the net after a goalmouth melee. Henley went on all out attack to pull the game around but Sandhurst added a fifth goal in the last minute to wrap up the points.
