Mixed fortunes for Henley side

AFC HENLEY U7s participated in Reading FC’s junior tournament at Madejski Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

AFC HENLEY U7s participated in Reading FC’s junior tournament at Madejski Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

In the team’s first game they narrowly lost to Fleet Town Colts 2-1 despite good goal-keeping from Jack Kernick and a well-struck goal from Kalum MacWilliams.

The second game saw Henley beat Old Windsor Tigers 2-1 thanks to goals from Sam Cooper and Finn Schafer and both were unlucky not to score again in a 0-0 draw with Basingstoke Town Colts.

Goals from Ethan Kitching and Freddie Bearman gave Henley the upper hand against South Reading in game four but it was two good pieces of defending from Ben Price and Toby Pressey that kept them ahead.

In the final game against Loddon Sports Kitching and Bearman scored to put Henley 2-0 in front but as Loddon pulled a goal back it needed the save-of-the-day from Charlie Rolstone to ensure Henley the win.

The tournament at U7s is non-competitive so all the teams and players received medals.

AFC Henley U7s: Freddie Bearman, Sam Cooper, Jack Kernick, Ethan Kitching, Kalum MacWilliams, Toby Pressey, Ben Price, Charlie Rolstone, Finn Schafer.
