Girls finish football season on a high

MORE than 200 parents and friends watched Wargrave Girls’ FC finish the season.

MORE than 200 parents and friends watched Wargrave Girls’ FC finish the season.

About 80 girls aged five to 18 took part in their annual football tournament at the Recreation Ground.

This was followed by an awards ceremony where the prizes were presented by club founder Kate Thomas. Club chairman Bob Austen said the club was looking forward to playing on its new Kings Field pitches next season.

“It is all very exciting,” he said. “We are hoping to start a ladies’ team and in September we will have the inaugural match between the Wargrave Girls and the Wargrave Wolves coaches.” The season’s top goal scorer was Katie Edwards and player of the year went to groundsman Martin Woods. The other awards were as follows:

Under nines player of the year, Olivia Foreman; players’ player, Emily Street; most improved, Saskia Mercer-Grey.

Under 10 Diamonds player of the year, Harriet Parsons; players’ player Ellen Payne; most improved, Georgia Treadwell.

Under 10 Wildcats player of the year, Isabella Boonham; players’ player, Hannah Clark; most improved, Emily Anne David.

Under 11 Panthers player of the year, Polly Coombes; players’ player, Phoebe Brown; most improved, Bella Hobbs.

Under 11 Tigers player of the year, Hollie Burgess; Players’ player, Anya Donnelly; most improved, Hannah Vonka.

Under 11 Jaguars player of the year, Annabel Williams; players’ player, Clara Anderson; most improved, Lucy Flann.

Under 13 player of the year, Mara Branet; players’ player, Arabella Wojciechowski; most improved, Maya Rees.

Under 15 player of the year, Ellis Langford; players’ player, Asha Sumory; most improved, Anna Robinson.

Under 18 player of the year, Nicole Haines; players’ player, Jade Norris; most improved, Emily Wilson.
