Macllenan at the double

HAMBLEDEN progressed to the third round of the Wycombe Senior Cup after defeating Wycombe and District League Senior Division’s league

HAMBLEDEN progressed to the third round of the Wycombe Senior Cup after defeating Wycombe and District League Senior Division’s league leaders Stokenchurch.

The hosts got off to a good start and saw a shot cleared off the Hambleden line after just three minutes.

Hambleden began to find their feet with Wilkins and Matt Cook battling hard in midfield and Markwell and Dawson uncompromising at the back.

Matt Cook for Hambleden and Watkins for Stokenchurch found their way into the book after a series of strong tackles.

On 21 minutes a Hambleden free kick from just inside the half on the left hand side was chipped by Markwell to Marcus Cook on the edge of the area who floated a deep drive toward the far post where Dixon headed home.

After 26 minutes Wilkins’ hard work allowed Macllenan to find Marcus Cook in a prominent position deep in the hosts’ penalty area. Marcus Cook’s drilled shot caused a Stokenchurch deflection that crept inside the keeper’s near post to put Hambleden 2-0 up.

Macllenan continued to cause Stokenchurch problems and shot wide after Wilkins, Matt Cook, Irving and Dixon worked the ball down the right.

On 31 minutes Macllenan put Hambleden 3-0 up. Running clear after Reading forced Stokenchurch to concede possession the striker placed his shot under the advancing keeper.

Macllenan virtually settled the tie for Hambleden in the 41st minute, cutting in from the right and finding the corner of the net with aplomb.

In the second half Macllenan went close before Paul Reading was again fouled and limped from play, being replaced by Simon Hathaway.

The substitute was unlucky to see his shot turned away after Wilkins finding space in midfield helped Brunning advance from the back to find the striker with a near post pull back.

On 66 minutes and after a whipped Macllenan corner, Wilkins out jumped defenders and keeper to nod home from one yard but the goal was ruled out due to an infringement.

With 10 minutes remaining Stokenchurch’s Watkins was replaced by Stu Zoey who latched on to a flighted ball after turning Markwell to score a consolation goal.
