Fletcher’s strike enough to lift side off foot of table

HENLEY TOWN moved up to fourth place in the Premier Division table after beating SHINFIELD RANGERS 4-2 at the Invesco

HENLEY TOWN moved up to fourth place in the Premier Division table after beating SHINFIELD RANGERS 4-2 at the Invesco Perpetual Triangle.

The hosts went a goal down within five minutes, and, though Howard Olley equalised, a defensive blunder allowed Shinfield to retake the lead before the interval.

In the second half Henley were well on top, scoring in turn through Ollie Maskell, Matt Sinclair and Craig Sinclair.

HENLEY YMCA UNITED are still seeking their first Division 1 East win of the season after they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Wargrave side 116 EXILES.

Fielding a much changed line-up, YMCA started cautiously with both teams playing out the majority of the opening period in the midfield. In difficult conditions both teams failed to create scoring opportunities in the first half.

After the break good work from George Chaplin on the wing, combining with Jack Kennedy, set top scorer Sam Taylor free, and he drew a smart stop from the Exiles keeper.

Henley continued to press the Exiles defence with more chances coming for Dan Barrett and Chaplin.

However, following 15 minutes of YMCA pressure Exiles took the lead from a corner. With the penalty area full of bodies the ball ricocheted off three players and dribbled into the bottom corner of the net.

As YMCA pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Exiles added their second when a quick break through the middle of the pitch ended in a low shot into the bottom corner of the Henley net.

GORING UNITED moved off the foot of the Division 1 West table thanks to a 1-0 win away to RICHFIELD ROVERS RESERVES. After a goalless first half Goring were awarded a penalty early in the second half, which was put high over the crossbar.

As more chances came and went, the deadlock was finally broken when a strike by Alex Fletcher found its way into the bottom corner of the net.

Goring kept pushing forward looking for a second goal but were indebted to a couple of good saves late on by Andrew Symonds.

This Sunday Goring United are at home to Bethel United.

Goals from Anthony Holland and Ollie Johnson gave KIDMORE END RESERVES their first Division 2 West win of the season as they won 2-1 at AFC BURGHFIELD RESERVES.

Despite the win, the Gallowstree Common side remain second from bottom in the table.

This Sunday Kidmore End Reserves travel to Barton Rovers Reserves.

MAPLEDURHAM ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at home to FC BERKSALONA to record their third Division 3 East victory of the season.

The hosts went 1-0 up with a headed goal from a corner by player/manager Ian Burgess.

In the second half Berksalona drew level after 60 minutes with a curling shot that lobbed the home keeper.

Mapledurham scored three goals in 15 minutes to secure the points with Danny Gale, Daniel Risby and Dan Salisbury all getting their names on the score sheet.

This Sunday Mapledurham entertain high-flying Whitley Panthers.
