Yeulet puts Town in quarter-finals

WATLINGTON progressed to the quarter-finals of the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup after a narrow win away to Clanfield 85 Reserves on Saturday.

Chances were few and far between in the first half as both teams struggled on a poor pitch in windy conditions.

The second half saw Watlington move up a gear. Tom Halliday began to control the tempo of the game in the middle and the ball was starting to stick up top, with Luke Yeulet working hard to establish this.

After 65 minutes Pete Ashman broke forward after a neat interchange in the middle of the pitch and crossed for Luke Yeulet. The Town’s front man wrong-footed the Clanfield defender and slid the ball into the net. Further chances for Watlington came through Pitts, Clements and Ashman, but they were unable to capitalise. Clanfield pushed the visitors until the very end but the single goal was enough to see Watlington progress.

In the quarter-finals Watlington Town will host Hook Norton Reserves next month.
