ROTHERFIELD UNITED moved up to eighth place in the John Dell Senior Division after winning 2-1 away to basement side WRAYSBURY VILLAGE.
The visitors started the match brightly with Ben Keable missing two gilt-edged chances before scoring from a difficult angle. Mark Sumner released Craig Sinclair down the left who delivered a pinpoint cross on to Keable’s head and he guided the ball into the far corner.
Sumner also had a good chance when he was unmarked in the box, but his loose first touch was snaffled up by the goalkeeper.
Both sides exchanged long distance efforts, but none of these troubled the goalkeepers.
In the second half chances were limited at both ends but Wraysbury were offered a lifeline when a long free kick was floated into the box and keeper Wildish could only palm it into his own net as he misjudged the flight of the ball.
Rotherfield pressed for victory and were rewarded when more good work from Sinclair produced a cross into the box where debutant substitute James Payne was on hand to finish from six yards.
Charlie Sumner and Andrew White were among the scorers for hosts SONNING as they slipped to their first defeat of the season as they went down 4-3 at home to BERKSHIRE UNITED in Division 1.
Elsewhere in the division, WARGRAVE went down 3-0 at WOODLEY HAMMERS while GORING UNITED lost 2-1 at TAPLOW UNITED RESERVES.
In Division 2 WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW RESERVES suffered a 2-0 defeat at TWYFORD AND RUSCOMBE while basement side GORING UNITED RESERVES crashed 5-0 at home to high-flying COMPTON.
Billy Roberts and Ellis Mason both grabbed two goals each as ROTHERFIELD UNITED RESERVES eased to a 6-1 Division 3 victory against SONNING A at Bishopswood.
Adam Choules played a slide rule pass through to top scorer Ellis Mason who openeted the scoring for the hosts after 10 minutes.
Captain Roberts added the second soon after when he pounced on a deflected header inside the six-yard box.
Early in the second half Langham crossed and the keeper spilled the ball in the path of Craig Oatham who netted from 18 yards.
Roberts claimed his second of the match when a crossed ball was met by Pete Keen at the front post who flicked the ball forward. His deft header bounced twice along the top of the crossbar before falling to Roberts at the back post who headed home.
Ryan Holmes added to the scoring when his cross found its way into the far right-hand corner.
Mason wrapped up the scoring for the hosts when he fired home from a good move. Sonning pulled a goal back from the penalty spot.
WARGRAVE RESERVES ran out comfortable winners in Division 4 as they beat AFC CORINTHIANS A 7-4. Dan Tegg and new signing Ashley Trice both netted hat-tricks while player/manager Richard Jones also got his name on the score sheet.
