HAMBLEDEN got back to winning ways in the Wycombe and District League
HAMBLEDEN got back to winning ways in the Wycombe and District League as they ran out winners away to local rivals Lane End in their Senior Division clash on Saturday.
Lane End started brightly, testing the newly formed back line which included the reserve team’s centre backs and keeper.
After a succession of crosses a Lane End header hit the post and keeper Butler saved the rebound .
Hambleden started to control the game and winger Simmo found himself through one-on-one after a mazy run but fired over from 12 yards. Hambleden opened the scoring when Niklai Lakovic delivered to far post from midway in the Lane End half for centre back Martin Power to head home from eight yards.
Playing uphill in the second half proved more testing for the visitors as Butler saved numerous shots on target and the defenders mopped up all the attacks.
With 10 minutes remaining player manager Matt Cook fired in a free kick from 25 yards, the keeper could only palm it into the top corner.
