HENLEY TOWN secured their first Hellenic League Division 1 East win of the season as they eased to a comfortable victory away to Old Woodstock Town last Saturday.
The visitors took the game by the scruff of the neck in the first half creating several half chances through striker Richard Bennett.
The continuous pressure paid off five minutes before the break with two goals in two minutes. The opening goal came from goalkeeper Stephen Fairchild’s long goal kick which Bennett headed on to the onrushing Ben Clark who finished with a well executed shot into the bottom corner. A minute later Asa Povey won the ball and played a quick pass to Clark in the area who found Sean Moore unmarked to fire home past the Old Woodstock keeper.
Henley increased their lead five minutes into the second half when Povey fed a ball through the defence to Moore who ran clear and rounded the keeper to score.
Old Woodstock still looked for an opening themselves and were given a small lifeline when Josh Green was played in clear of the Henley defence and shot past the advancing Fairchild to make it 3-1.
The Red Kites restored their three-goal advantage seven minutes from time when Moore picked up the ball wide out on the left before cutting into the box where Bennett took the ball to tap home. In added on time Henley were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. A five man move involving Moore, Thomson-Wheeler and Povey saw Kemp thread the ball to Bennett who scored his second of the match from close range.
