SECOND-HALF goals from Ben Clark and Asa Povey helped Henley Town inflict Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East leaders Headington Amateurs with their first defeat of the season on Saturday.
Hosts Headington started brightly with their midfield finding gaps. On 25 minutes the hosts found a defence splitting pass that allowed midfielder Payne to be put through one on one with young Henley goalkeeper Dimitrios Kyriatzis who managed to get a hand on the shot but could only watch as the ball was carried in the air by a strong wind and into the back of the net.
Adjustsments were made to the Henley side at half-time which saw them get to grips with the Headington midfield as the visitors took the game to their opponents.
Henley were awarded a free kick in the middle of the park on 55 minutes which was put out wide to Jack Thomson-Wheeler who delivered a teasing ball into the Headington six yard box which Clark managed to lean on and get in front of the tight marking defender to score the equaliser.
Two minutes later some intricate passing in midfield allowed Asa Povey to be put through on goal one on one with the keeper before drilling home what turned out to be the winning goal.
In the remainder of the game Henley created further goal scoring opportunities through Thomson-Wheeler, Grant Kemp and Povey.
The final minutes saw the Henley back four of Kane Slocombe, Gary Smith, Warren Baxter and man-of-the-match Andrew Nunn remain focused in dealing with the final attacks from Headington.
