Baker’s double helps Hurricanes tame Lions

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U13s ran out 6-5 winners against CURLEY PARK RANGERS LIONS U13s in the East Berks League on Saturday

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U13s ran out 6-5 winners against CURLEY PARK RANGERS LIONS U13s in the East Berks League on Saturday.

Curley Park seized a chance outside the Henley area with a long range shot to open the scoring. Man-of-the-match Luke Freeman made an accurate pass to Ben Hudson to net the equaliser.

Henley found success in their set plays and capitalised on a succession of corners, Jem McAllister, the corner taker, firing the ball into the area and off the heads of Archie Barker and Jamie Hudson to take the lead after two corners.

Curley Park pulled a goal with a counter attack. A shot from Henley’s Jamie Hudson was saved by the Curley Park keeper and pushed out for a corner. Taken again by McAllister, the ball rebounded perfectly for Archie Barker to put away his second of the game. Just before half-time, Luke Freeman created an opportunity to make it 5-2.

The second half saw Curley Park produce some skilful attacking football enabling them to shoot at Henley’s goal forcing a fine save from Luke Taylor who landed awkwardly. This resulted in substitute keeper Henry Lenthall taking over between the sticks.

More long range shots from the Lions resulted in two further goals and put Henley under pressure for the final quarter. However, Henley defended well breaking away to win the final corner of the game with Felix Grant making it 6-4 to Henley.

Just before full time Curley Park netted the final match of the game with a well-struck free kick.
