Read at double as five-star United take derby honours

SC UNITED ran out comfortable 5-1 winners in their Division 1 derby clash at HENLEY TOWN.

SC UNITED ran out comfortable 5-1 winners in their Division 1 derby clash at HENLEY TOWN.

United’s first attack of the game resulted in a goal when Kieren Chard’s mazy run set up striker Seve Mayberry who rifled home from the edge of the area.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Chard was brought down on the edge of the area. He stepped up to rifle home the free kick as his shot went straight through the Henley wall into the top corner of the net.

Shortly before half-time, United made it 3-0 when a Mayberry cross was headed back across goal by striker Paul Read to provide Danny Jakubisyn a cushioned nod in to wrap up the half.

Eight minutes into the second half the hosts were awarded a penalty after Jimmy Maudlin lunged in on Henley’s left winger in the area. Craig Sinclair stepped up to score from the spot.

Henley’s revival hopes were quickly dashed when a rapid counterattack sent Mayberry away down the right and a perfectly weighted pass into Paul Read’s feet was tapped away with aplomb having missed a couple of efforts previously.

The visitors wrapped up the scoring when Walid Zakys cut back to Mayberry who found Read who outmuscled his rival defender and finished with his weaker left foot for his second of the match.

MAPLEDURHAM ran out comfortable 5-1 winners at home to EAST READING ROYALS in Division 3 East.

Both winger David Johnson and Steve Boult netted two goals apiece while Stuart Owen also got his name on the scoresheet for the hosts.

In Division 4 East HENLEY YMCA UNITED went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to AFC CHALFONT.
