HOSTS Henley Town moved to the top of Division 1 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League
HOSTS Henley Town moved to the top of Division 1 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League last Saturday after defeating local rivals Reading Town 5-3.
The visitors surprised the Red Kites with an early goal from Khan direct from a free kick. This rattled the hosts and they started to play through their opponents and after 30 minutes they got their rewards when they were awarded a penalty after Bennett was brought down in the box. Grant Kemp stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to equalise.
Henley took the lead just before the interval when Richard Bennett netted a well taken goal.
The Red Kites extended their lead on 55 minutes when Jack Thomson-Wheeler dispossessed a Reading Town defender in a dangerous position and his pass found Ben Clark whose strike hit the inside of the post as it went in leaving the keeper no chance.
Reading pulled a goal back with a header from Abdul Ally before Kemp restored his side’s two-goal advantage when he netted at the back post following a corner.
The visitors pulled the score back to 4-3 with five minutes to go when substitute Lance Barlow scored direct from a free kick.
The hosts then went down straight down the other end of the pitch where Bennett, in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, netted his second and Henley’s fifth to secure all three points.
Henley Town: Fairchild, Slocombe, Thomas (Belcher, 45 mins), Nunn, Smith, Witt, Povey, Clark, Kemp, Thomson-Wheeler, Bennett. Substitute not used: Howell.
