Second-half fight back not enough for hosts Wargrave

WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW hit top form at home to COOKHAM DEAN in the Premier Division as they ran out 5-1 winners.

WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW hit top form at home to COOKHAM DEAN in the Premier Division as they ran out 5-1 winners.

The hosts took an early lead with a goal by Toby Nowell who beat two men before finding the top corner with a good strike after three minutes.

Five minutes later a Cookham player was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Andy Taylor.

After 27 minutes it was 2-0 when a cross by Jake Dillon was helped on by Jonny Summers for Nowell to finish from close range and it was soon 3-0 as Sam Green converted from Nowell’s pull-back after he was found by a perfect Jake Dillon cross.

Cookham went close to reducing the arrears just before the break but were denied by a point-blank save by Kane Roberts.

Woodcote began the second half on the attack and Jake Dillon went close with a header from Andy Bullett’s cross. Soon after Tommy Chapman’s shot from distance went just wide.

The home side made it 4-0 on 65 minutes when former Woodcote keeper Nick Bovingdon fumbled Jake Dillon’s cross-shot into his own net. The keeper went some way towards atoning for his mistake just afterwards with a save from Jonny Summers and on 70 minutes Cookham Dean pulled one back with a shot which squirmed under the body of Roberts.

With the match entering injury time, Woodcote completed the scoring with Jake Dillon hammering home a penalty for 5-1 after Nowell was upended in the box.

SONNING secured all three points in their Division 2 clash at WARGRAVE as they ran out 5-3 winners.

Sonning went 2-0 up before being reduced to 10 men when Mike Akem-Che was sent off following an altercation. The numerical disadvantage failed to make an inpact on the visitors as they pressed ahead to go 4-0 up before the break.

In the second half Wargrave staged a fight back with goals from a Stuart Moss free kick, John Rimmer and Adam Luckett before Sonning netted their fifth of the game.

In Division 3 WARGRAVE RESERVES went down to a 2-0 defeat away at AFC ALDERMASTON RESERVES.
