A GIRLS’ team from Sacred Heart School ran out winners of the inaugural Premier Sport Cup during national girls’ football week

A GIRLS’ team from Sacred Heart School ran out winners of the inaugural Premier Sport Cup during national girls’ football week.

In all 32 players from four schools, including Trinity, Valley Road and Badgemore, competed on the five-a-side pitch at Henley Rugby Club’s artificial grass pitch in a round robin competition where all teams played each other twice.

Valley Road picked up an award for the most sporting team on the day. Speaking after the event Doug McArthur from organisers Premier Sport, the UK’s leading providers of school sport and PE, said: “The children were an absolute credit to all of their schools and show clearly, given the right opportunities, there is an opportunity for girls to actively get involved in sports like football if done in an environment that gives them confidence to participate.

“This is just the first of many initiatives and we look forward to organising future events for our schools and children.”
