Macdonald hat-trick helps United make cup progress
ROTHERFIELD UNITED U13s made it through to the third round of the Ron Smith U13s County
ROTHERFIELD UNITED U13s made it through to the third round of the Ron Smith U13s County Cup on Sunday after thrashing MARSTON SAINTS U13s 8-0.
Going into the match Marston boasted an unbeaten league record. Rotherfield started brightly taking the game to the visitors and their reward came after five minutes when Rowan Prince played the ball forward to Manuel Da Silva who calmly laid it back to Justus Larter who fired it on to the crossbar where it deflected down into the back of the net.
In a similar move moments later the ball came from down the right wing to Charlie Wagstaff who crossed to Da Silva and back to Larter who netted his second.
Rotherfield kept Marston penned in for the first half, and with the pressure goals were inevitable, with Da Silva, Daniel Watts and Wagstaff all bagging one each before the half-time whistle.
The second half was less predictable as the wind got up and at a corner into the wind the ball made a U-turn in mid air to come back out of the box, making cohesive play difficult.
Marston managed to put the pressure on Rotherfield several times but in over committing allowed Joe Macdonald to break through on a counterattack using his pace to go one-on-one with the Marston keeper where he fired home. In a copy of his goal Macdonald went on to turn in two more, making his first hat-trick of the season, finalising the Rotherfield goal tally at eight. Charlie Masters was named man-of-the-match for his defensive display.
In the quarter-finals Rotherfield will entertain Deddington Town Colts at Bishopswood on December 13.
ROTHERFIELD UNITED RENEGADES U13s secured all three Berkshire Youth Development League points as they defeated GORING ROBINS U13s 3-1 at Palmer Park on Saturday.
Robins were unbeaten this season having taken the win from Rotherfield early on in the campaign.
Rotherfield, who have since been unbeaten, dominated the game allowing the Robins few chances and any danger was stopped by Renegades’ keeper Rodrigo Haivaz. Geno Green, Zodey Sabizan and Kai Larking were the scorers for the home side. The Robins netted from the penalty spot late on. Elsewhere ROTHERFIELD UNITED REBELS U13s secured all three East Berks League Division 2 points as they thrashed BRACKNELL TOWN ELITE U13s 9-1 at Bishopswood in a match that saw Manuel Da Silva net five goals.
The Rebels started the match well and after 10 minutes of testing the Bracknell defence Da Silva opened the scoring.
The Rebels then showed how lethal their front formation could be with the pace of Joe Macdonald and Alfie Briggs on the wings, which combined with Da Silva’s speed and strength meant that Bracknell had no answer to the onslaught.
The teams turned around with the Rebels 4-0 up at half-time and added a further five in the second half before Bracknell netted a consolation.
Archie Barker was named as man-of-the-match in a game that saw Macdonald score a goal and Briggs net a hat-trick.
