FORMER Reading manager Brian McDermott has emerged as the bookmakers? favourite for the vacant manager?s job at Madejski Stadium.
McDermott, who managed Reading between 2009 and 2013, guided Reading to the Premier League having won the Championship title in 2011/12. The following season McDermott was sacked by the club?s then owner Anton Zingarevich with Reading languishing in the relegation zone with Nigel Adkins taking his place in the hot seat.
Following his dismissal McDermott took over at Leeds United in 2013 before being relieved of his duties the following year. Since then the 54-year-old has been working as a chief scout for Arsenal, a team he made 61 appearances for in his playing days.
Former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is second favourite with former Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp emerging as a surprise candidate along with Birmingham?s Gary Rowett and Hibernian?s Alan Stubbs.
Other names being linked with the post include former fans? favourite Phil Parkinson as well as previous managers Brendan Rodgers and Steve Coppell.
U21 manager Martin Kuhl, who has taken temporary charge of the team while the club seeks a new manager has been installed as seventh favourite.
Reading travel to Preston North End on Saturday to play their first match since the sacking of Steve Clarke last Friday.
