FORMER Reading manager Brian McDermott looks set to be named as the new manager in the next 24 hours.
Bookmakers have slashed the odds off McDermott being installed as the new boss to 1/16. Meanwhile reports elsewhere suggest that the former fans? favourite could be unveiled as the new boss at some point today (Wednesday).
McDermott, who managed Reading between 2009 and 2013, guided the Royals to the Premier League having won the Championship title in 2011/12. The following season McDermott was sacked by the club?s then owner Anton Zingarevich with Reading languishing in the relegation zone with Nigel Adkins taking his place in the hot seat.
Following his dismissal McDermott took over at Leeds United in 2013 before being relieved of his duties the following year. Since then the 54-year-old has been working as a chief scout for Arsenal, a team he made 61 appearances for in his playing days.
McDermott?s first match in charge will be Saturday?s trip to Preston North End.
Since Steve Clarke?s sacking last Friday, Martin Kuhl has been in charge of the first team?s training at Hogwood.
