Rotherfield Rebels march on

ROTHERFIELD UNITED REBELS U13s progressed to the semi-finals of the Oxfordshire County Cup after beating DEDDINGTON TOWN COLTS

ROTHERFIELD UNITED REBELS U13s progressed to the semi-finals of the Oxfordshire County Cup after beating DEDDINGTON TOWN COLTS 5-2 at Bishopswood on Sunday.

Rotherfield went ahead after six minutes when Manuel Da Silva attacked from the right, passing across the goal and the ball was deflected off a Colts defender into the path of Joe Macdonald who fired home.

Deddington replied moments later with a run through the Rotherfield defence and a well taken shot.

On 26 minutes Da Silva was brought down outside the Deddington box earning a free kick which he powered into the goalkeeper who couldn’t hold it putting Rotherfield ahead.

Play continued with Rotherfield slightly shading it thanks to good goalkeeping by Max Hanshaw until 10 minutes into the second half when Da Silva executed a pass across the goal to Zodey Sabijan who fired home.

Deddington seized upon some errors made by the Rebels’ defence to get back into the game by putting the ball in the bottom right of the net.

With 10 minutes remaining Da Silva passed the ball out to Justus Larter who restored the two goal cushion. Two minutes later Larter won the ball from a tackle on the right wing to take a shot at a slight angle which found its way into the top left of the goal.

In the semi-final Rotherfield will face the winner of Oxford City or Bardwell.
