A HAT-TRICK from striker Charlotte Cockerton gave Henley Ladies 1sts a convincing win away at Maidenhead.
The match started with a high intensity and it was obvious both teams were up for a physical battle. It was Maidenhead who made the breakthrough shortly into the first half with a well struck short corner.
Henley responded well to the early set-back and were soon creating good chances to score. Emma Buckham-Hedges finished calmly from a rebound from strike partner Cockerton.
Maidenhead replied quickly by pouncing on a mix-up in the Henley defence to restore their lead.
But Henley responded by scoring two in quick succession, a well finished corner from midfielder Barham and an excellently taken goal from Cockerton. The second half saw Henley take play to the next level and great interplay between the midfield and forwards saw Maidenhead struggling to keep up.
Five minutes into the half Draycott picked off an excellent tackle, getting the ball to Metcalfe who hit Buckham-Hedges. One touch to control and one touch to shoot made sure the Maidenhead keeper didn’t stand a chance and Henley were 4-2 up.
Two more goals from corners, Cockerton and Metcalfe scoring, put the result beyond doubt before Cockerton rounded off an excellent performance with a well taken goal for her hat-trick.
There was time for Maidenhead to score their third but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.
