THE Blue Coat School’s U12A football team finished off their undefeated season by winning the County Cup thanks to a 3-1 win over Forest School.
Goals from Matt Kirk, James Hayden and Harry Martin all came in the second half to give the Sonning-based school the win.
This ensured an undefeated season — the first time this feat has been achieved at U12 level at the school, and also the first time the cup has been won by a Blue Coat U12 team.
The first half started with Blue Coat having most of the possession but chances were hard to come by on a sticky pitch.
Blue Coat found themselves 1-0 down as a well-taken free kick found the top corner. In the second half Harry Wardle was dominating the midfield, which began to open pockets of space for others to run into. This led to a corner being earned and Tom Dexter whipped in a cross, which was met by Matt Kirk at the back post to equalise.
Soon after Dexter sent in another good ball from a free kick, which caused problems for the Forest defence, and Harry Martin slotted home after a goal mouth scramble to put Blue Coat into the lead.
As Forest pressed for an equaliser they left themselves open to the counterattack and the pace of Webb, Hawes and Hayden produced a number of chances. Eventually one of these was taken as Hawes broke down the left and put Hayden in on goal and he coolly slotted home to make it 3-1. Forest continued to press and Marcus Baines had to be alert to make a number of good saves in the last few minutes.
