Young stars pick up team of the year award

AFC HENLEY STARS U17s were crowned team of the year

AFC HENLEY STARS U17s were crowned team of the year at the club’s annual end of season awards.

Hundreds of players and supporters crammed into Henley Town Hall on Wednesday of last week where the awards were handed out by the town&rsquos mayor Julian Brookes.

The Stars picked up their accolade after being crowned East Berks League Division 2 U18 champions despite being a year younger. The team also reached the quarter-finals of their respective cup competition.

The top scorer award for seven-a-side matches went to Tom Yeoman of Henley Hurricanes U9s who netted 20 times. Monty Heath of Henley Hotspurs U12s picked up the nine-a-side award after bagging 19 goals while Jem McAllister was the club&rsquos top scorer with 22 at the 11-a-side game. Henley Hawks U10s picked up the fair play award.

The club person of the year award was presented to chairman Trevor Howell for his dedication to the club over a number of years. Amongst numerous other duties performed by this year&rsquos new chairman, Howell still runs the Saturday morning mini soccer centre that he set up 14 years ago.



Outgoing U18 manager Sean Taylor picked up the club recognition award for his many years&rsquo service to the club.
