Tate’s eagle helps him secure top division win

WILL TATE eagled the par five fourth hole on his way to victory in Division 1 of the Midweek Stableford at Caversham Heath on Saturday.

Tate carded nine pars and four birdies as well on his way to 40 points. Runner-up was David Cuthbertson with 38 points and third was Jon Winstanley with 37. Cuthbertson received a one shot cut in handicap.

Division 2 winner was Nigel Barden with 41 points. Second was Anthony l’Anson with 40 points and third Andy Holmes with 38. Barden received a two shot cut in handicap.

Mark Shemmans took the Division 3 honours with 43 points. Runner-up was Samuel Kpani-Addy with 42 points and third was Simon Reynell-Taylor with 39. Shemmans received a two shot cut in handicap and Reynell-Taylor was cut one shot.

Matt Jones’ first bogey free round of the year was enough to clinch victory in Division 1 of the weekend Stableford competition played out last month.

Jones took the win with 40 points, his round included 16 pars and two birdies. His par save at the tricky 12th hole was the highlight on a day where conditions proved to be hugely exacting.

Michael Deignan, himself hitting a rich vein of form, was runner-up with 38 points following a round including four birdies of his own.
