Stalwart Griffin drives in

THE new men’s captain of Henley Golf Club, Dave Griffin, drove in on Sunday.

Rainy conditions affected the team competition which preceded the ceremony where Griffin, 53, who has been a member for 41 years, was named captain following a culmination of all the board competitions wins that he has amassed in his time at the club.

The new captain, who was the club champion in 2004, chose a Persimmon 3 wood for his drive in but still managed to hit the ball 220 yards down the centre of the fairway.

In the team event the fourball of Richard Zoethout, Derek Brown, Richard Bull and Paul Masterman were the overall winners with a score of 77 Stableford points. The team of Martyn Metcalfe, Jason Livy, Marcus Lovelock and Andy Bryan were the runners-up on countback from the fourball of Richard Fenn, Cliff Austin, Dave Lawrence and Richard Stow when both teams recorded 76 points.
