Juniors show their class in warm-up encounter

THE squad for the Thames Valley Junior Golf League held a practice match against Henley Golf Club adults as a warm up for the new season.

Nine local clubs compete in the TVJGL and last year Henley finished third in a closely contested result.

The Henley team, managed by Olympic gold medallist Richard Dodds and coached by head professional Mark Howell is hoping to improve on this position in 2019. Playing to league rules the juniors beat the adults 7.5-2.5.

Meanwhile the Club at Mapledurham held their annual Home International competition on Sunday where teams of 10 represented England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in a team Stableford competition.

The weather was bright, but cold with strong winds making scoring difficult. On the day Scotland came out on top with a score of 317 with team captain David Mehigan accepting the trophy. Ireland came in second on 299 ahead of Wales on 283 and England with 275.

The individual prize was won by Debbie Lees with 39 points, beating Michael Nankervis on countback and Simon Dawkins just missing out in third position with 38. Peter Wild bagged the nearest the pin prize with a nine iron into the par three 18th.
